Menswear Focus: The Newburgh Quarter, London

London is a awash with great places to shop.  in every corner of the city you can find plenty of the worlds leading labels as well as some of the finest independent stores in the whole country.  When I’m shopping in London though I try to avoid the ‘main’ shopping areas like Oxford Street and the pandemonium of the shopping malls, instead I like to head to some of the quieter nooks and crannies.

Right in the middle of Carnaby in Soho is the Newburgh Quarter, a quaint group of cobbled streets that are home to some fantastic menswear shops, barbers and places to eat.  It is pretty easy to forget that you are only a short walk from Oxford Circus.

Newburgh Street itself offers a really strong lineup of shops for men – Red Wing shoes, Shinola, Filston, Baracuta Traditional Weatherwear (an offshoot of the mackintosh coat brand) and Peckham Rye all have a presence here.  The Shinola shop is a particular favourite of mine (you might remember my recent lookbook feature with them) and is easily spotted with its huge clock sticking out of the front.  Inside the Shinola collection looks even more perfect than ever, I could easily bankrupt myself in there.

If it’s grooming that you are after then you will be well looked after in Newburgh too.  Depending on your style you can get your hair well and truly groomed in Pankhurst London, a masculine retreat or the slightly kitsch but cool Johnny’s Chop Shop, sorted!
