How to add the finishing touches to a room without breaking the bank

My interior styling goal is always to create a clean, organised and comfortable living space.  As I work from home a lot of the time, it’s important to me to set up space that I really enjoy spending time in.  I’m not sure if it’s just a sign that I’m getting older, or maybe it’s the ‘Instagram Factor’ but I’ve found myself getting increasing interested in interior style recently.

Some of you may think that it is a little bit boring but when it comes to interiors my own personal style (much like my fashion sense) is very minimalistic and classic.  Colour wise, I go white or grey and when it comes to furniture I like clean lines and simplicity.  I tend to introduce colour and character to a room by adding introducing artwork, lighting and smaller finishing touches.  With a blank canvas as a backdrop it’s much easier to keep your room feeling fresh by tweaking a few key elements.  Some new pictures on the walls, a brightly coloured rug or the introduction of some plants will easily give your room a new sense of identity.

Styling a room can get quite pricey though so I’m going to let you into a little secret of mine – Homesense.  Think well laid out warehouse style stores packed full of unique furniture, kitchenware, soft furnishings, books, lighting, candles and just about everything else that you could need to make a room feel like home and you will be on the right lines.  The thing that I love the most about this shop is that you literally never know what you are going to find each time you visit.  I genuinely think that this place is as a near to a real life treasure trove as you are ever likely to get.

The key to finding yourself some amazing homeware finds is to visit regularly.  Getting to know the store well makes it far easier to navigate and to spot the new items.  Even when I go in with a mission in mind I always give the rest of the shop a quick scout round, just in case I stumble across that bargain that I never knew that I needed.

As I said before, I love picking up interesting finishing touches and a great way that I find of adding a little colour into the room is by grabbing a selection chunky coffee table books.  Homesense have a really eclectic mix of lifestyle books and they are all priced as a fraction of the RRP.  Whether your thing is cooking, travel, design or sport you are sure to find some quality publications that will look great on your shelf or table.  I’ve snapped up quite a few books, like The Daily Street series that I had my eye on for ages within the clearance section so make sure that have a good rummage in there too.  You literally never know what you are going to find.

Find your nearest Homesense store with their handy store locator.  You can share your pickups on social media with the hashtag #HomesenseFinds to let everyone else see what you found.

This is a partnership post in collaboration with Homesense however as always all words and opinions are my own.
