An up-close look at the New MINI John Cooper Works GP

Dubbed the fastest (road-legal) MINI ever, the new MINI John Cooper Works GP packs an extraordinary amount of punch for a small car.

Last week I was over in Palm Springs with MINI for the first official look at the car in the flesh and the chance to taxi in it for a lap around the track. I have to say it’s really quite something.

This is a MINI like no other. The designers and engineers have stripped out absolutely everything that is not essential in this car to ensure that it is as light as possible and with a top speed of 164 mph they have done a great job.

The lightweight chassis coupled with a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine, 306 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque make the GP a car bred for performance and a fantastic new addition to the already successful John Cooper Works family

Every new MINI John Cooper Works GP will share the same racing grey and chilli red paint finish that you see here and I’m a big fan of it. The oversized rear spoiler, in particular, looks absolutely striking with its red interior.

The MINI JCW GP will be priced from £34,995 and will be produced in a run of only 3,000. With over half of these already on pre-order, you better act fast if you want to get behind the wheel of one when deliveries begin in March.
