Inside Atera, Glasgow’s New Underground Wellness Destination

Glasgow has a new spot for switching off, with Atera Bathhouse & Spa opening beneath the city centre on Oswald Street.

Just a short walk from Glasgow Central, the Mediterranean-inspired wellness destination brings together thermal bathing, spa treatments, fitness and food under one roof. Best of all, you don’t need a membership to visit, with access starting at £75.

At the heart of Atera is a 12m hydrotherapy pool heated to 37°C, alongside a Finnish sauna, ceremonial sauna, botanical steam room, Hammam, cold plunge pools and thermal experience showers. The idea is simple: a slower approach to city life, whether you’re dropping in for a few hours of relaxation or making a longer spa day of it.

There’s also a Mediterranean Thermal Journey, which combines traditional Hammam exfoliation, Rhassoul clay, sauna sessions and cold immersion. Atera is bringing the European sauna ritual of Aufguss to Glasgow, with a trained sauna meister using essential oils and choreographed towel movements to circulate scented steam around the sauna.

Wellness here goes beyond the bathing facilities. Seven treatment rooms offer face and body treatments using ELEMIS and Comfort Zone, while the fitness offering includes a Technogym-equipped gym, functional training space and Pilates Reformer studio. There’s also a programme of classes spanning high-intensity training, yoga and mobility, alongside personalised fitness assessments.

Food is part of the experience too. Atera Café serves a plant-forward menu with Mediterranean influences and seasonal Scottish ingredients, from seafood and heritage vegetables to Italian coffee and puddings.

Non-member access starts at £75, while memberships begin at £140 per month, with three options available. Atera is open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm at weekends, with the café open daily from 9am to 7pm.

Atera Bathhouse & Spa is open at 89 Oswald Street, Glasgow, G1 4PA. Find out more and book at atera.spa.
