The best Fathers Day Picnic Spots in the UK

In case you forgot, you still have a little time to perfect your father’s day plan as it falls this Sunday, the 19th of June.  This is the one day of the year when you should be spoiling your old man.  Whether you choose to shower him in gifts, take him for a pint or something a little more unique just make sure you take time out of your week to do something.

How about packing a bag or hamper and heading out on a picnic?  You could go alone with dad or round-up the rest of the family, either way I’m sure he would love that you spent a bit of time and effort putting some thought into it.  Depending on your dad’s interests you could seek out a nice place locally to visit be it a beach, park or somewhere urban.  You know him best so should be able to think of the ideal place but I have been racking my brains to put together a few suggestions to get you started…

Calton Hill, Edinburgh

Calton Hill is where you will find the Edinburgh observatories so that should be a good clue to the great views that this location provides.  It’s only a short walk from the city centre and while not as high as Arthur’s Seat (maybe a good thing for your legs) it offers some amazing vistas.

Brighton Beach, Brighton

It is supposed to be summer after all so if the weather happens to be on your side you could head down to the beach in Brighton for a quintessentially British afternoon on the stones, just remember to pack the scones and jam!

Mount Stewart, County Down

A 18th century house and garden not far from Belfast which has all the charm of Jane Austen.  Have a wander around the gardens and find yourself a quiet spot, and if you forgot to pack anything there is a onsite tearoom too.

Primrose Hill, London

Boasting great views across the city this one does get pretty busy especially in summertime but if you can find yourself a nice spot it is certainly worth it for the people watching alone.

Warkworth Hermitage, Northumberland

This one takes a little bit more effort to find as it’s only accessible by water.  English Heritage have even listed it as one of its six most curious sites in the country.

If you know of a little spot near you let us know too by sending us a tweet @everyday_man!

So now that you have decided where you are going to go, what should you take with you?  Well it’s dads day so make sure you include all of his favourites foods in your hamper, perhaps some craft beers too like the Shock Top Father’s Day gift set is available exclusively from Ocado.com for £15.99.  The gift set includes 4x bottles of Shock Top Belgian White, an award-winning spiced Belgian-style wheat ale with real orange, lemon and lime peels with a hint of coriander spice and it even comes with a pair of socks and that is something that dads can never have enough of right?

Lastly don’t forget the desert!!
