‘The Everyday Interview’ with Bip Ahuja

The Everyday Man

It’s hard to top having Beyoncé as a fan of your brand but the co-founder of lifestyle brand A Black and White Story, and focus of our latest Everyday Interview, has now done that. Ex-investment bankers Bip Ahuja and Anoo Rehncy recently won a highly coveted spot on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe list for 2017 Europe, in the Retail & E-commerce category, for their brand which they co-created to advance the message of equality – no matter what race, religion, belief, age or sexuality, we can live in a united world, where truth and diversity reigns.

The Everyday Interview is a new series of ‘7 questions’ interviews with founders, creators, writers, entrepreneurs and big-thinkers making a name for themselves in the lifestyle arena, including Bip who answered our 7 questions:

What did you want to be growing up?
Batman

Where did your interest in style come from?
I express my character and personality through my style, so it’s quite natural. I’ve always had a fine eye for details and quality plus I played a lot of sport, which is where my love for athleisure comes from.

What has been the greatest challenge to your brand/work?
Not having enough time in the day. From running the day to day operations, managing orders, dealing with production across multiple time zones and being able to fit in a gym session can be challenging at times, but it takes a really strict routine. If we had a larger team, things would be a lot easier!

Who was or is your greatest influence?
I am motivated by stories of people who don’t give up on their dreams, no matter what comes their way. Bruce Lee is a good one – from being told he would never walk or fight again after his back injury, to seeing how hard he trained himself to recovery and won all martial art tournaments again. He’s a legend.

How would you describe your personal style?
Where tailoring meets streetwear. I grew up playing a lot of sport and have always been comfortable in my track bottoms and trainers, so they’ll always be in the mix, even with a smart white shirt.

Tell us something no one knows about you?
I watched all the series of Prison Break in under a week.

7 words to describe yourself
Active, persistent, risk-taker, animated, honest, loyal, Jerry Maguire.
