Digital wake up call

I’m not sure if its a side effect of getting old but I seem to find myself listening to the radio more and more often lately.  In the morning especially I enjoy being briefed on the day’s top stories and the weather as well as hearing some good music while I am getting ready for the day ahead.  After many years of trusty service my trusty it was time for my Sony Dream Machine to retire so I set about looking for a replacement.

I live in a pretty old house so the radio reception can be a hit or a miss at times so I made the decision to switch to digital in the hope that the sound would be a little clearer.  To save on space too I wanted to find not only a radio but a bluetooth device hat I could use to stream music from my phone and iPad.  After loads of deliberation (initially I was swaying towards the retro style Roberts radios) I opted for the Pure Evoke D2 from John Lewis as it seemed to tick all of the boxes.

The radio was the ideal size to sit on my bedside table and the design matched my newly redecorated bedroom ‘grey’ colour scheme.  DAB allows you to access an extended range of channels which was a big positive for me.  I also like the display which tells you which song is playing, meaning there is no need for constant Shazaming.   As well as the radio function the Pure Evoke D2 allows bluetooth streaming from any device.  So far I have only tried it with my iPhone but it seems to work really well.  The sound quality is not amazing as the speaker output is only a mere 1.6W but this is more than suffice for my needs as a bedroom sound system.

The built in radio alarm and simple functionality top off the features for me.  The radio would make the perfect addition anywhere in the home that you require some additional background noise.

Pure Evoke D2 DAB Digital Radio is available from John Lewis priced from £84.99
