Duracell: Powering the Rugby World Cup to Stay Stronger for Longer

The end of summer may be coming but it is not all bad news, as it heralds the start of the 2015 Rugby World Cup which will take place in England for the first time since the home nations jointly hosted the event in 1991.

Duracell, the official Rugby World Cup 2015 Tournament Provider, has just launched a new objective measure of power and endurance to help the fans understand a little bit more about the teams, players and key moments at the tournament.  The Duracell #PowerCheck is a new measurement that will share insight around the power and endurance that have proved vital ingredients for previous winners of the famous Webb Ellis Cup.

If you are into your stats and facts then prepare for information overload as the #PowerCheck will track a combination of tackles, carries, rucks, turnovers won and metres covered during the course of each game, with a greater weighting towards players that remain on the pitch for longer. Just like the power check on a Duracell battery, this data will be then be used to create a score out of 100. The whole process rewards the performances of players who stay stronger for longer.

Wales and British Lions captain Sam Warburton, ranked as one of the leading players of the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, will be just one of those Duracell has signed up to follow via #PowerCheck. Only time will tell however who will be top of the rankings this time around.
