Eden Mill Gin Blendworks

Last weekend, I was invited up to St Andrew’s by the Scottish craft gin specialists Eden Mill to try out their new gin blending experience – Eden Mill Blend works.  Now might be a good time to tell you that I don’t normally actually like gin but with its popularity growing, I thought that this might be the perfect place for me to find one that I actually liked.

The Eden Mill Blend works experience lasts 3 hours and takes place in a specially created workshop within the historic Rusacks Hotel in St Andrews.  The experience started off with a welcome gin & tonic while our tutor talked us through the history of gin and the distillation process.  As things progressed we were introduced to some of the elements and ingredients that are used to make Eden Mill Gin.  Of course, being a gin experience there is also ample opportunity to sample these as you go too!

It’s then time to get experimenting, as you are let loose to explore the many flavours and ingredients that you can mix to make your ideal blend.  As a base, you get to choose from sweet, citrus, spicy or floral gin before adding in a selection of other elements that have been sourced from every corner of the globe.  The thing that surprised me the most when I was trying to create my gin was that the flavours I thought I liked, didn’t always work that well.  My advice would be to be adventurous and try some things that you might not normally.

Gin lovers, in particular, will love this experience but even if it’s not your go-to tipple I can still recommend it as like me, I’m sure they will be able to find a recipe that you love!

I spent the night at the Rusacks afterwards and loved the views of the old course and the sea from the window.  The weather was onside too (absolutely freezing) but bright and clear skies, the perfect weather to get wrapped up for a lovely for a walk along the beach the next morning before heading for the train back home.rusacks

If you fancy trying the Eden Mill Blend works experience it costs £95 per person and includes a gift pack with 3 x 20cl bottles of your very own gin (which you even get to name) to take home at the end.
