Five Tips for Turning a Casual Fling into Something More Serious

couple og a date

We all love a good romance story and everyone wants to fall in love, it’s what keeps the world turning and life exciting. If you’ve recently met someone and have been casually dating them for a while now but you are looking to turn it into something more serious because you have fallen for them, then we would love to help you. We have put together our top five tips for turning a casual fling into something more serious, although it is important to note that you must be sure that this is something that you both want because you don’t want to get hurt in the process if this is a case of unrequited love. The main thing to remember is to always be open and honest about how you feel.

Think about what you want

This is probably one of the most important things to consider before taking the next steps to take your relationship forward. If you have been casually dating someone for a few months now and you have started to develop feelings for them, the first thing to do is to think properly about what it is that you want. Have you really started to fall for this person or is it just that you have been feeling lonely and are craving attention. Sometimes we can get confused that our feelings are for the person we have been dating, rather than about the feelings and emotions the attention has given you.

If you are really sure that you have fallen in love with your date then it’s important to think carefully about how to move forward with your relationship and how to let them know. It’s okay to develop deeper feelings for people despite starting the relationship on casual terms, things change, just remember to be honest and make sure it’s what you really want.

Let your date know how you feel

If you are really sure that you have fallen in love and want to move your relationship forward then the next important thing to do is to let your date know how you feel. This can be really daunting and scary, but the best thing to do is to just go for it.  There will only be two outcomes to this, either they will feel completely the same way about you, or they won’t want to continue it to anything more serious.  Try not to overthink this too much as it will cause you lots of anxiety, just be calm, breathe deeply and speak from the heart.

A good way to do this is to arrange to see your date but don’t mention anything about this before you meet up. When you see them, just let them know that there is something you need to talk to them about and just let them know how you feel. You will probably feel a lot better once you have told them and it will mean that you can relax and then the pressure is with them to see how they want to progress.

Keep the communication open

It’s important to keep the communication open with your date and make sure that you are completely honest with them about how you feel and how you see things moving forward.

Give your date time

Once you have spoken to your date and told them how you feel it is important to give them time to think. Let them know that you don’t expect them to make a decision straight away, this will allow them time to think about what they want and also it won’t make them feel pressured into making a decision on the spot.

This is probably going to be the worst part for you, we all know how hard it is to wait, feeling anxious that you have just put all your feelings out there,  waiting on each text or call that comes through, but you’ll have to try to be patient.

Be happy with the outcome

After you have let them know how you feel you could arrange a time to meet up and have a chat about how they are feeling. Obviously, as we said this could one of two ways, the preferred one is that you meet up again and they have decided that they want the same thing and you can agree to go on your first official date! You must be prepared for the fact that it could also go the other way and they let you know that they don’t feel the same way about you. Of course, this will leave you feeling sad but you need to be happy with whatever they decide to do.

Don’t take it personally if they decide they don’t want to be with you, it may be that they like you but it’s not the right time for them, or there might be other factors happening in their life at the moment that might be too stressful.  Whatever they choose you to have to respect the outcome.
