Tried & Tested: Gousto Food Box

Mealtime in my house can sometimes be a bit like groundhog day.  Now that is partly due to the fact I am the world’s pickiest eater but also because I can’t be bothered experimenting.  Well what if someone where to deliver a box of grub directly to your front door with everything you need to rustle up a few game changing meals?  The good news is that Gousto can do just that.

The basic concept is pretty simply once you register online you choose the recipes you want to try and the number of people you want to serve.  Gousto then go shopping to gather the required ingredients from British farms and wack it in the post to you with a step by step guide on how to prepare it all.  It really is that easy.

Last week I was lucky enough to be sent a sample box so that I could give the service a try.  Firstly I was pleased at how well packed all of the food was, the meat was inside special wool bags which keep it cold and the fruit, veg and other bits were all in the required quantities (which cuts down on waste).  I was sent the raw materials to make a roasted vegetable frittata, some lamb neck fillets and creamy pork steaks.  I was particularly pleased with the veg, which all looked fresh and  good quality – like it had just come off the farmers market.

Also within the box are recipe cards…don’t panic, you don’t need to be Gordon Ramsay to follow them.  The steps are simple and come with little pictures to help you along the way.  All in all I was overwhelmed with the service and the ease in throwing together a good healthy, home cooked meal.  A great way of earning some brownie points at a dinner party or giving your dinner a nice little shake up!
