Luxury British men’s underwear maker Hamilton and Hare have teamed up with the rising boxing star Frank Buglioni to launch a limited edition collection of tailored boxer shorts which are available with your own fighting nickname embroidered on the side (ideal Christmas gift idea!).
The boxers take their style from classic British boxing attire and are made from two-ply cotton with a retro contrast stripe and matching stitched detail. The attention to detail has to be seen to be believed, some seriously well made and well cut boxer shorts.
To celebrate the launch of the ‘Frank’ collection we caught up with the man who gave his name to the pants in our latest spotlight interview…
1. If your house was on fire and you could only take three items from your wardrobe what would they be?
My watch I was given by my uncle, it’s a beautiful piece and has sentimental values too, my Hamilton and Hare boxer briefs, the most comfortable
thing I own and I’d have to say my Brioni trench coat, it’s a classic and it’s been everywhere with me.
2. If you weren’t a boxer what would be you be or like to be?
I was studying to be a building surveyor at university before I joined the Olympic boxing team, and was working part time as one during my first
year as a professional boxer, so definitely that. I loved the construction game and met some great people on the way through.
3. When was the last time you wanted to throw a punch outside the ring but didn’t?
Last New Year’s Eve, some random drunk guy was threatening me and my girlfriend whilst we were just out having a walk. He decided to cross the
road when I told him what would happen if he didn’t stop screaming and shouting.
4. How does your mum deal with you fighting in the ring?
Nervously! She did come to fights, but would walk out when I made my entrance. Now she stays at home and watches on TV. It’s hard for her because she doesn’t see the work I put in at the gym, so on the night it’s just like a fight I suppose.
5. What is your most embarrassing underwear story?
After a night out with the boys, we all ended up staying at one of their houses. They decided in the middle of the night to chuck me out onto the
front lawn in just my boxers and wake up all the neighbours.
6. Who would you most like to play you in a film?
I think a young Robert De Niro, he’s such a brilliant actor and he played Jake La Motta brilliantly in one of my favourite films ‘Raging Bull’.
7. If you were allowed a day off from your athlete diet with no consequences, what would you eat?
Everything! My diet is very healthy but it’s actually enjoyable. My weakness is a banana milkshake and I only have these after fights, so if I could have a few without consequence I would!
8. What would your dream holiday destination be?
I’d like to visit Las Vegas and take in a massive fight. A few pool parties wouldn’t go a miss either.
9. Describe you perfect Sunday
I had one a few weeks back, my girlfriend came for a weekend here in Dublin, where I’m training at the moment we had a walk around the zoo, had some Sunday lunch in a nice restaurant and then spent the evening watching a film. Sunday is my only day off, so the more relaxed the better!
10. Do you have any pre-fight rituals or superstitions?
I have pre fight rituals, but they are all tried and tested preparations. I can’t divulge that information though, what has taken me years to practice and perfect would be an advantage to the competition if they knew.
The Frank collection by Hamilton and Hare is available now priced from £35.
