We caught up with the creator of Night Owl to find out a bit more about the concept.
Q So tell us, what’s the craic with Night Owl?
Basically Night Owl is a Nightlife guide app that actually lets people find exactly what they want from R&B student night’s to live jazz lounge bars. Our reviews are provided by users and event information by the venues themselves so you can be sure that everything is accurate. This means you won’t end up going to a venue that is closed for a private event or actually closed permanently, which I know has happened to me a few times.
Q How did you come up with the idea?
I was in the middle of Leicester Square, probably the most hectic place for nightlife, and all my friends were bickering about where to go while promoters harassed us. So I started thinking “surely there has to be an app for this” and after seeing there wasn’t, I realised I had to be the one to do it first.
Q What makes you different from other going-out apps?
Our app actually shows you what’s happening that night rather than just generic info about the venue. This means that if you’re picky, like me, then you can filter the results to show exactly what you want.
The biggest difference is that our app will only show you what is still open if you’re out really late. This is incredibly useful for when you leave somewhere at midnight and want to keep the party going because you’re a true Night Owl.
Q Describe what would be your ideal night out on London?
I’m not sure if that’s suitable for some of your readers, but seriously I love Latin student nights or the lounge bars with live bands that let you get involved. Try finding those on Google?
Q When does Night Owl roll out to other cities?
Night Owl is already available worldwide and we’ve even had a few venues in LA sign up. Hopefully, soon we’ll expand properly into a lot more cities once we gain enough traction in London and our app can become a one-stop platform, usable all over the world. That’s the dream anyway.
Night Owl is available on the Apple App Store.
