I have to admit that when it comes to headphones, I am one to choose the quality of the sound over the appearance. It may sound completely obvious, but how many of you have gone out over the past year and purchased a set of Dre Beats? Let’s face it, they’re basically the iPhone of the audio world. I’m generally not a fan of big, bulky headphones as personally, I find them uncomfortable and they’re not quite as easy to stuff into your pocket once you’ve finished with them. When I received my Pioneer Extreme Sports headphones recently, I couldn’t wait to give them a try.
At the minute, I use a set of Bose IE2 in-ear plugs and if I’m being perfectly honest, they’re top-notch! Because of this, they also help determine just how good other headphones are in comparison. My first test for the pioneers was the gym. I wanted to make sure that I wasn’t going to be putting the earpiece back in every thirty seconds when trying to run (a pet hate) or worrying that the person next to me could hear my sometimes questionable taste in music (it could get pretty embarrassing)… no problems here. They were comfortable, stayed in the majority of the time and they weren’t so loud that everyone around me could hear.
Next up was the sound. Essentially the most important aspect and sole purpose of any headphones. I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the pioneers but I have to be honest, they were good. So good in fact, I’m yet to switch back to my old faithful! The music was clear and distinct. The base was apparent and left a real sharp echo. I flicked through my playlist to trial a variety of different tracks and each sounded as good as the last. It’s apparent that Pioneer has got something right here and I would certainly recommend them if you’re on the lookout for a decent set of headphones.
They retail at around £40 so why not throw a pair on your Christmas list!
