Ruffians Barber Shop, Edinburgh

As a proud Glasweigan it’s pretty rare that I make the journey to the ‘other’ big city that lies on the east coast of Scotland.  Glasgow is of course a million times better than Edinburgh (that’s what the people round these parts will tell you anyway).  I will reluctantly admit however that there is one thing that they have over us weegies and that is my favourite barber shop Ruffians is located through there.

Ruffians do also have a branch in Covent Garden (you may remember I popped in there a while back) but Edinburgh is where is all started.  The barber shop  itself is located at 23 Queensferry Street, only a few minutes walk from the main shopping area of Princes Street and handy enough for Haymarket train station.

Since I decided around a year ago now to grow out my beard I have gotten really into the whole grooming thing.  I now enjoy seeking out products like beard oils, shampoos and of course good barber shops.  Ruffians have tapped into the market just perfectly they merge the classic craft of barbering with new technology, great decor and friendly staff.

The Edinburgh Ruffians is a tad smaller than the London branch that I had previously visited but it is just as cool inside.  I particularly love the cutting area and the large windows that surround it meaning if you get bored with looking at your own reflection in the mirror you can partake in a spot of people watching as the world goes by.

I had popped in this time for a beard trim and a tidy up round the old back and sides and was taken care of by the bearded cockney Luke who looked every part the Ruffian himself.  The service here is all about the attention to details from the folded paper collars, the hair hoovers (yes really they hoover your head to rid you of those irritating loose jaggy hairs) and the front hair wash sinks the stylists really ensure that you leave looking and feeling your best.  And without wanting to scare you all half to death here is the finished Ruffians beard trim and tidy up…

P.S Hurry up and open a Ruffians in Glasgow, Edinburgh is just a tad too far for a trim!

  • The end results show a very dapper gentleman! A well-groomed man speaks volumes of himself and prominently displays confidence. You have already displayed that by being particular of what to use and who you go to. What other things have you done in order to display that artwork that is your beard to others?
