Laphroaig has never been a whisky that fades into the background. The Islay single malt is famous for its smoky, salty punch and now it has called on one of Hollywood’s most distinctive actors to bring that character to life. Willem Dafoe fronts a new short film titled The Taste, part of the brand’s ongoing Unphorgettable campaign.
The film explores Dafoe’s search for the words to describe Laphroaig, drawing on memories from his own life and his flair for storytelling. It is a playful yet cinematic take that celebrates the bold spirit of both actor and whisky. Senior Whisky Maker Sarah Dowling worked closely with Dafoe on the project and together they have also developed a limited edition expression that is now quietly maturing. This new whisky will be unveiled in 2026 and promises the same peat, smoke, salt and subtle sweetness that fans love.
To mark the launch, the Barley Mow in Mayfair was transformed into The Barley Dafoe, serving a one off cocktail called Opposite Island. The drink will also appear in select bars around the world in the coming months, giving fans a first taste of the collaboration.
For a distillery that has always prided itself on doing things differently, the partnership with Willem Dafoe feels like a natural fit. It celebrates character, creativity and the confidence to embrace what makes you stand apart.
