Review: Hacienda Na Xamena Spa, Ibiza

Ibiza is one of my favourite places on earth.  The small Spanish island, which lies in the Mediterranean Sea is full of charm, buzzing with the famous music scene and steeped in history.

Unfortunately most visitors to Ibiza will fail to travel much further than the south of the island, that is after all where you will find the main city of Ibiza Town and the sprawling tourist resorts like San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa.  For those that make the effort to venture a bit further afield though, there is plenty of magic and beauty awaiting them.

I have been to Ibiza many times before but was a little ashamed to say that until this summer I had actually seen very little of the place so I decided to make it my mission to explore.  Top of my list of places to see was the Hacienda Na Xamena located on the north coast and around 40 minutes drive from Ibiza Town.  Establishing itself as Ibiza’s first 5 star hotel back in the 70’s this place has certainly passed the test of time with a recent refurbishment being completed just 2 years ago, it has never let its standards slip.

I was not travelling north to stay at the Hacienda but to check out its most famous feature, the Cascadas Suspendidas – a series of heated infinity pools built into the cliff edge.  The actual process of ‘following the bubbles’ to move from pool to pool was a little odd but the pinnacle of this experience was the view.  No picture can do this even the slightest justice, it is a sight you have to see for yourself.

If you are lucky enough like we were to get the experience to yourself it really is the most magical of moments, completely peaceful (except for the sound of the water jets) with unspoilt views over a majestic little bay.  I imagine at sunset or sunrise it is even more special.

After the Cascadas experience was complete we continued to enjoy the view from the hotels poolside bar that is located just above the spa.  They serve a great selection of healthy snacks and fruit smoothies or if you fancy it they have plenty of not so healthy lunch options too and cocktails.

If you visit Ibiza and don’t have this place on your to-do-list then you really are missing out!
