Suits You Sir

Suits play an important part in a man’s wardrobe.  Most of us don’t wear one every day (if we do they tend to be drab work suits) but when we do pull one out it is generally for an important occasion – job interview, wedding or other family event, prom night etc.

It is now mid summer and as always it brings a huge array of formal occasions that require us to be suited and booted.  We have teamed up with great British stylemakers Burton Menswear to bring you the low down on summer suits from their tailoring collection.

Now the first thing I will say on suiting is to take the leap.  The majority of guys will always play it safe with black or if they are feeling slightly more brave light grey.  Let’s leave these colours for more sombre occasions and go with blue or light brown.  A light air force blue is my personal summer favourite.

The second point is Keep it simple.  Avoid piping, silk patches, patterns or anything else on the suit itself.  A blank canvas well-accessorized will look 10 times better than a fussy suit with over the top detailing.

Don’t spend on a fortune on the suit itself thinking that it will be better quality or that you will look better in it.  My top tip is to buy an off the shelf piece from Burton or somewhere similar and take it to your local tailor.  For a pretty small amount they will be able to alter waist, leg, chest etc to a more streamlined size for you.  The end result is as close as you will get to a custom-made suit at a fraction of the cost.

With the recent Gatsby buzz, accessorising has become a big deal – bowties, pocket squares, belts and tie pins will perfectly complement your look.  Don’t overdo it tho or you will run the risk of looking like a pearly king.

I am a big fan of coloured socks, and love the idea of teaming a pair with a suit to give a pop of colour as you sit down or walk.  Peper Harow have some fantastic styles at the moment which are made from Pima cotton helping to keep your feet dry,  No matter what colour of suit you opt for there is a design and style of sock to suit.

So there you have it.  Your next challenge is following the steps above and rewarding yourself with a super suave new look, ensuring that you will get noticed at the next big event you go too.  I dare you to take the risk on this one, I doubt you will look back!
