Waiting For Ideas Drops the Ultra-Minimalist PP-1 Turntable

Paris-based creative studio Waiting For Ideas is shaking up the audiophile space with its latest release: the PP-1 turntable, a sleek, minimalist deck that strips vinyl playback down to the bare essentials. With just a play button and a volume knob, the PP-1 rethinks traditional record players, featuring an invisible tonearm and a chassis carved from a single block of anodized aluminum—a process that takes 12 weeks to produce.

Unlike laser-based turntables, the PP-1 retains a physical stylus and cartridge, but they’re concealed behind a metal door system that opens only when a record is placed on the platter. Developed in collaboration with Miniot, the turntable’s tech allows for automatic speed detection, seamlessly switching between 33 and 45 RPM for precise playback.

The upside? A strikingly clean design that blends into any space. The catch? You’ll have to place your vinyl upside down to spin your favorite tracks.

Connectivity is equally streamlined—power is delivered via USB-C, while a 3.5mm audio jack handles output. For those looking for a matching setup, Waiting For Ideas has also dropped a set of passive 85dB 80W speakers, crafted to the same minimalist specs as the PP-1. They’re up for preorder now at €3,200 (~$3,320), while the PP-1 itself lands at €5,800 (~$6,012).

A bold statement piece or a purist’s nightmare—you decide.
