If you’re visiting Glasgow and looking for somewhere central to stay, you will not find anywhere as ideally located as the brand-new aparthotel Native Glasgow. Located just between Buchanan Street and George Square, a minute’s walk from Queen Street Station and directly over the road from the Airport Bus Stop it’s the perfect base no matter how you travel to town.
Native are already a pretty well-known name in London but have ventured north of the border for the first time by taking over the upper floors of former Anchor Line Shipping Company’s Headquarters, an impressive art deco building located on the beautiful St Vincent Place. The buildings heritage and previous life as the home of the transatlantic shipping line has played a very big part in the design and colour schemes used throughout the 64 apartments. From the penthouse suites (which overlook George Square and the City Chambers) to the studio apartments on the lower floors, the nod to shipping heritage is strongly apparent.
The entrance to Native Glasgow is rather discreet It’s nestled between the Anchor Line bar and restaurant and The Citizen and still maintains quite a stark office like feel but once you make your way up to the reception on the first floor, a friendly welcome from the Natives on the desk awaits.
My room was up on the 6th floor and featured some huge loft style windows which I absolutely loved. It’s definitely worth asking for a higher floor while checking in as some of these come with views across the neighbouring rooftops and are really quite pretty.
The art deco styling in the interior means that the furnishings are a tad on the more classic side, but they go seamlessly with the modern bathroom, fast and free Wi-Fi and large TV. The only things I’d have liked to see added was the ability to cast content from my phone (Netflix and the likes) and maybe a small Bluetooth speaker as I forgot to pack mine. Other than that, the room offers everything that you could possibly need and more!
