4 of the most romantic holiday destinations in Europe

Whether you’re jetting off on your honeymoon or planning a surprise getaway for your partner, Europe has plenty of romantic destinations to choose from.

To give you some inspiration, here are four of the most idyllic places to visit with your significant other.

South of France

The south of France is a hugely popular destination, and it’s easy to see why. There truly is something for everyone here, including rolling countryside, quaint villages, vibrant cities, and beautiful sandy beaches.

You and your other half may best enjoy holidays to the south of France during the summer when the weather is typically warm and dry.

You could visit Nice to take a romantic stroll along the Promenade des Anglais, enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea and explore the Matisse Museum. Cannes is another popular city, famous for its luxury shops, fine dining, and charming old town.

If you’d rather immerse yourself in the countryside, head to the incredible region of Provence. Here, you can relax with a glass of vino overlooking vineyards and olive groves. What could be better?

    Amalfi Coast

If you’re looking for somewhere special to celebrate your relationship, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better location than the Amalfi Coast.

Located in southern Italy, this stretch of coastline boasts colourful towns that tumble down hillsides to the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea. The landscape is incredible, with dramatic cliffs, lemon groves, vineyards, and quaint beaches.

You could hop on one of the ferries that take tourists to the most popular hotspots, including Positano, Capri, Amalfi, and Sorrento. Spend your days discovering charming towns, marvelling at historic architecture, and relaxing on the beach.

As you explore, take some time to enjoy long leisurely lunches of pizza and pasta as you enjoy the views. Of course, your trip wouldn’t be complete without sampling some delicious limoncello!

    The Algarve

Do you and your partner love to be by the sea? Then the Algarve may be the destination for you. Best known for its golden sandy beaches, warm weather and dramatic cliffs, it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind with your other half.

Head to some of the most popular beaches to sink your toes in the sand, swim in the sea and get stuck into a good book. Lonely Planet recommends various beaches, including Praia de Vale Figueira, which they say is one of those “romantic beaches that’s great to visit even on cloudy days”.

If you’d like to experience an adventure together, there are plenty of fun activities to enjoy across the region. You could take a speed boat tour around the caves, head out to spot dolphins or go on an action-packed jeep safari.

    Iceland

Would you like to treat your partner to an unforgettable trip? Why not whisk them away to the enchanting landscape of Iceland? This volcanic island is renowned for its captivating scenery with hot springs, black beaches, geysers and waterfalls.

There’s plenty to do by day, such as sinking into the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon. You could also go whale watching together, explore Thingvellir National Park, and visit Gullfoss Falls which are nestled in the Haukadalur Valley.

At night, head out on a tour to hunt the Aurora Borealis, often known as the northern lights. They are one of nature’s most amazing phenomenon and may be seen during the winter when the nights are darkest.
