Cider Makes Summer + Win £50 to spend at O’Neill’s!

There’s no denying that cider has become big business in recent years.  Much like the craft beer explosion, cider producers all over the place have been brewing up some pretty obscure and tasty versions of the drink.  Of course, we all know that traditionally it was very much an apple flavoured drink but it’s now available in a whole range of flavours and infusions.

Last week, the pub chain O’Neill’s invited myself and a few mates down to try out their new range of ciders that they have recently launched as part of their #CiderMakesSummer Festival.  We headed along to their location in Merchant Square, Glasgow; it’s recently had a makeover and is a lively big bar right in the heart of the city.  I’m the cider nut of the group, with the others normally opting for beer instead so I was interested to see what my mates would make of the refreshments.

Joining the ever popular selection of Kopparberg fruit ciders were some new ones that I hadn’t seen before.  We opted to try the Rosie’s Pig ‘Flat Tyre’ Rhubarb cider first as it sounded quite unusual and came in a really cool little can – the kind of can that my mate Mat Buckets would no doubt swoon over!  It was refreshing and really unusual tasting too, a nice summer drink.  After trying a few others from the menu we were all in agreement that the new Passion fruit & Lime was out favourite though.  It’s sweet but comes with a twist of lime that keeps it from getting too sickly tasting.

If cider’s not your thing then fear not as they also offer a pretty impressive range of beer and whisky as well as a very tasty line-up of food too.  We were there in the evening time so tried their steak but the breakfast menu sounded amazing, definitely another reason to go back whenever I’m feeling like a weekend treat.
