Men’s Partywear: The Do’s & Don’ts

It is almost time to get suited and booted and head off to your annual works Christmas party bash, but what are you going to wear?  Everyone likes to make a little bit of an effort at Christmas time, even if you are a trainers and jeans type of guy the rest of the year this is your chance to smarten up.

Here are our top tips when deciding on your choice of clothing for the biggest night of the year on the office calendar:

Suit your style – If you are going to make the splurge and buy something new, try to find something that your will wear again.  Investing in a blazer like one of these tweed blazers from Intro Clothing is a great idea.

Not only will you look great on the night but this can become a regular wear item from your wardrobe.

Is there a theme? – I really hope the answer here is no, but a lot of big corporate companies love this kind of thing, often ‘The Oscars’ or ‘007’.  Perhaps try to loosely stick to the theme is there is one without ending up looking like you got Christmas mixed up with Halloween.

Bear the venue in mind – If you are heading to a casino or an exclusive members club there could be a dress code in operation.  It is worth checking this out in advance or you may not make it over the front door.

Don’t break the bank – Christmas is one huge shopping spree.  Just remember that your money will be further stretched than usual this month.  Think what did you wear last year?  Is it possible to pull a suit from your wardrobe and add a few new additions like a new bow tie, pocket square or shirt?  This can totally change the style and have people thinking you splashed out.

Think luxury – Luxury does not have to cost the earth.  Materials like velvet, satin and silk all like to come out to play during the festive season.  Don’t take this as a pass to dress like your on Downtown Abbey.  Mix and match the luxurious fabrics with something a little more simple.  A velvet jacket for example will look great with a crisp white shirt.

It’s all about having fun – Don’t forget that this is a party night. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable or like you are heading to a wake.  Footwear is the biggy, there is often lots and lots of standing around or mingling at these nights so make sure you have a pair of comfy shoes on your feet.  If you are donning skinny jeans for the first time make sure you don’t go super skinny or you may regret it – baby steps.
