Whisky fans have a new reason to visit Edinburgh as this week has seen the launch of a unique new multi-million-pound distillery and garden visitor attraction at Glenkinchie near Edinburgh.
Glenkinchie is the Lowland Home of Diageo’s world-famous Johnnie Walker brand and will be the first of four new corner distilleries around Scotland which will link up to form an incredible network of visitor experiences linked to the Johnnie Walker Princess Street attraction, that is due to open in Edinburgh next summer.
Glenkichie is a small and but perfectly formed distillery that is centred around a brand new feature garden and an immersive experience located within the traditional red brick warehouse that has stood on the site for many years.
Last week, I was given the chance to experience the new visitor facility just before it opened and I enjoyed their fresh take on a whisky tour. Of course, all of the elements that you would expect remain but there’s some great new technology and tools which really help to bring the tour to life.
As with anything Johnnie Walker related, there are lots of nods to the whisky brands past as the story of their humble beginnings as a small Kilmarnock based store to a megalithic global brand is told.
