The Lonely Planet Ultimate Travel List features the 500 top places to visit in the world

Travel may be somewhat limited at the moment but what better way to make use of the downtime by drawing up your ultimate travel bucket list!

Most of us already have at least a few destinations that we would love to visit but if you’re after a little inspiration, the Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Travel List will undoubtedly be a handy resource as they have listed their top 500 places to visit in the world.

Lonely Planet reckons that the most thrilling, memorable and interesting place that you can visit on the planet is the ancient city of Petra, and having seen it on the big and small screen many times, I know that I’d absolutely love to.

Of course, much of the list includes tourist traps like the Tai Mahal and The Great Wall of China but the beauty of such a long list is the lesser-known entries. With monuments, national parks, museums, trails and more there really is something for every type of traveller though.

At number 275 on the listy one that makes my personal wishlist is Yves Saint Laurent’s design legacy in Marrakech. The bright blue villa that was the designers former home sits amongst some luscious, colourful gardens. I just know it would be a stunning sight against the bright Moroccan sky.

For those of you who don’t like to travel as far afield then there’s good news too as Lonely Planet has included 34 must-see places right here in the UK. That’s actually more than any other country so with staycations the order of the day for the foreseeable, we are really spoiled for choice.

At number 40 on the list, the Lake District is the top-rated British spot, but there are loads of others stretching the length of the country from one of my personal favourites, Glencoe in Scotland to the Jurassic Coast in the South of England.
