Nestled in the heart of London, the Meliá White House Hotel invites guests to experience the epitome of luxury with its exquisite Jazz Suite, a harmonious collaboration with the renowned Jazz Cafe in Camden. From the moment you step into this stylish sanctuary, you are greeted by an ambiance of sophistication and refinement, coupled with the soulful melodies of jazz, of course.
I checked into ‘The Jazz Suite’ last week to immerse myself in everything that it offers. The Meliá White House is the brand’s flagship property in the UK and has recently been the subject of a £40 million refurbishment. This has seen bedrooms, bars, and public spaces completely upscaled. It’s actually two properties in one. The main hotel is accessed from the front of the building, and tucked away at the discreet rear entrance, you’ll find ‘The Level‘, their premium offering which comes with a whole host of added extras including private check-in and premium lounge access. The lounge is where breakfast is served daily and also afternoon tapas and drinks, all included in your room rate.
Once the check-in formalities were complete, I excitedly made my way upstairs to check out The Jazz Suite for myself. For the duration of the collaboration with the Jazz Cafe, the hotel has turned one of their very bright junior suites into this bespoke room. It’s on the 6th floor and as I arrived, the room was bathed in sunshine. It was very welcoming.
I loved the colour palette of oranges, dark wood tones, and whites. It felt quite homely and more along the lines of a modern city apartment than a hotel room. It was a corner suite and was divided into a bedroom (with freestanding bath), bathroom, and sitting room area (with a sofa bed and separate TV). The record player and bespoke drinks globe took pride of place in the living room area of the suite and were joined by some Spanish ham and other tasty snacks.
I’m not normally a bath type of guy, but when in Rome and all, so I turned on the tap, put on a jazz record, and enjoyed the welcome snacks while it filled up. I originally had evening plans to head out, but I loved the ambiance of the suite so much that I decided that this staycation would be of the relaxed variety and that a night in would be on the cards instead.
After my long, hot bath, I did some reading whilst sipping on one of the cocktails from the globe before jumping into the rather huge bed and drifting off for my night’s slumber. And what a great night’s sleep I had.
The following morning, I was up early as I had quite a few things in the diary. I swapped the bath for a shower this time and was delighted to discover the complementary Rituals shower foam (one of my favourites) on the shelf in there. I then checked out the 24-hour gym before breakfast; it is on the small side but does have everything that you need to keep you ticking over.
Overall, I could not fault the location or the room; I had a lovely stay. Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a weekend retreat with friends, or simply a moment of relaxation in the bustling city, the Jazz Suite at the Meliá White House Hotel offers the perfect blend of luxury, music, and ambiance. It’s only around 15 minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus/Soho to the hotel, so you really couldn’t be much better placed for a stay in the capital.
