Review: Cream Ibiza @ Amnesia August 7th 2014

So we have made it back from Ibiza in just about one piece and are looking forward to sharing with you some of the highs and lows of our time of the hedonistic Mediterranean island of Eivissa.  Un fortunately die to some airline trouble we arrived a little later than expected but were still in time to head to Cream, this is Ibiza after all the party doesn’t really start until the wee small hours.

As has been the case for the past few seasons the night was headlined by Calvin Harris on the Terrace.  We arrived around 2am and Burns was still very much in control of the decks.  The place was packed to the rafters but that is pretty much what you would expect at a club recently voted the ‘best of the past 25 years’ by MixMag.  The crowd was a little on the young side and were no doubt drawn in by the big name headliner on the bill.

Over in the main room the atmosphere things are a lot more up tempo and with Above & Beyond headlining in there that is completely understandable.  Trance, lazers and powerful hard, fast beat’s were the order of the day.  It really is an explosive experience for the senses in here there’s just so much going on and so much to take in.

Of course there are bigger and perhaps more prestigious clubs on the island than Amnesia but somehow they seem to keep raising the bar and Cream in particular remains one of the most sought after tickets of the summer season.  The only annoying thing, which is happening everywhere not just at Amnesia is the ever enlarging VIP sections within the club.  A few seasons ago and almost all of the balcony in the terrace was general admission, year on year this has engulfed more space.  this is of course a big revenue for clubs and promoters but Ibiza should not really be all about that, in my eyes anyway.

The party continues every Thursday until the 25th September so you still have plenty of time to see why this night causes such a big stir on the party calendar.
