So when it comes to food I am a complete plain Jane. Nothing fancy, nothing too exotic just good tasting no fuss flavours is my kind of munch. One thing that I do enjoy however is a half decent steak so was rather excited to discover when browsing the new last-minute reservations app Uncover that the American favourites Smith & Wollensky have finally made it across the pond.
Uncover curate a daily shortlist of London’s most desirable restaurants with a great selection from hidden gems to trendy innovators to Michelin classics. I saw a few other places on there that have been added to me to do list for the future!
Smith & Wollensky, London, is located in the Adelphi Building, just off The Strand in London’s West End sits the British outpost of S&W. The interior is quite simply stunning, luxurious yet masculine and with a real sense of 1920s New York through the art deco inspired design and sea of green and brown leather furniture. Shall we start you off with a cocktail, the waiter asked? Well seeing it was the weekend I thought why the hell not. Their selection is vast however they are more than happy to tweak flavours to suit your taste. I went for the martini and it was delicious.
Now onto the food. They offer a selection of meats, fish and vegetarian options but really you can’t visit S&W without opting for one of their world-famous steaks. I went with the 12oz Fillet Mignon, which in all honestly was far too much for one. IT was tasty and juicy but I struggled to finish it all. On the side I choose fries and seasonal veg. The fries were among the best I have ever tasted but the veg was nothing more than that you would expect to find in a supermarket ready to eat pack which was disappointing.
I headed along on a Saturday evening and the place was busy but not too packed, but the atmosphere was good, relaxed yet refined at the same time. The service was quick and just as friendly as you would expect from a American food chain. I will definitely be back!
