My Rio Olympics Travel Diary…and a chance for you to WIN a 3 month supply of Swisse Vitamins!

Rio Olympics

I’ve not long returned home from the trip of a lifetime to Rio for the Olympic games and before my memories from Brazil fade into the distance I thought I would share my highlights with you all. If you have me on Instagram then you will have no doubt already seen lots of my pictures on there but I have plenty more still to share!

I had been invited over to Brazil with Swisse – the vitamin choice of Team GB (and me) – to take in the Opening Ceremony of the Rio 2016 games as well as a few other sporting events. Exciting!  I travel a lot and as part of my mission to keep healthy taking a Swisse multi-vitamin is important to me as it ensures that my body gets everything it needs on top of my healthy diet so I made sure that I had packed my Ultivite in my case!

After a pretty epically long journey, we arrived in Brazil (via Amsterdam AND Lisbon) and the fact that we were heading to the Olympics began to sink as the airport official stamped my passport with the official ‘Rio 2016’ logo.

As I sat in the Maracana stadium on that opening night, I looked around at the many thousands of people from all across the globe who had made the journey to be apart of this once in a lifetime spectacle and I had to pinch myself a bit to realise that I was actually there too.

The general tone of the week was just one of great excitement and positivity, from the moment we stepped off the plane until we departed the buzz and electricity in the city of Rio was unparalleled, everyone had a smile on their face.

Aside from the Olympic sporting events we took time to enjoy some of the truly breathtaking sights of Rio. A journey up to the Christ of the Redeemer statue which sits on a mountain high above the city is a must. We took the funicular railway train which has a journey time of about 20 minutes and offers some peeks at the stunning view on the way to the top.

Once you get up to the top, just like any other major tourist attractions is absolutely rammed with people all trying to get the perfect selfie with the statue so be prepared to wait your turn. It’s worth it!

Ipanema Beach Rio

My favourite thing about Rio though was the beaches, which is a tad odd as I’m not a fan of sand normally (work that one out if you will). Both Ipanema and Copacobana were blissful strips of soft white sand flanked by the sprawling mountains at the ends and the city behind.
