Test driving the Citroën C5 Aircross

A few weeks back I was handed the keys to the Citroën C5 Aircross Flair for the weekend to take it on a bit of a familiarisation test drive.

I just so happened that on this particular weekend I’d already planned a bit of a road trip up to the Colessio Hotel in Stirling, so I now had some nice shiny wheels to take me up there.

I was testing the C5 Aircross Flair in Platinum Grey and although I have to admit that on first look, the actual silhouette did not blow me away. As a family car though, it ticked loads of boxes and the colour was beautiful but if I were to opt for a new SUV myself, I’d most likely go for one a little less friendly looking.

After a night in Stirling, I decided to head a tad further north to get a better feel for the car, so I set off in the direction of Glencoe – my favourite road trip destination!

There were lots of parts of the C5 Aircross this I really loved, the panoramic sunroof, the 19″ alloys and the incredibly comfortable seats to name just a few. The onboard computer and tech were top notch too and the satnav system was thankfully very easy to use.

I’m a big fan of Apple CarPlay and thankfully this was compatible so I was able to link-up and listen to my favourite podcasts from the BBC Sounds app as I was driving along.

This model had wireless charging which for a heavy phone user like me meant that when I reached my destination, I’ve always had plenty of battery to take photos and catch up on my messages.

As a family car, this has heaps of storage from the sizable boot to tho hidden compartments around the seats too so there is plenty of space for anything that you need.

A nice addition in this model was the presence of the Citroën ConnectedCAM. It’s a built-in dashcam that you can link up with your smartphone to view and download footage. Of course, it’s primarily a safety tool but on a trip like this one through Scotland, it was a great way to capture some shots of the landscapes too.

It was a quiet drive and even on the windier of roads, it was stilll a smooth ride. If you’re in the market for a mid-sized family SUV, I would say that this is a strong contender and definitely worth taking a closer look at.
