Tried & Tested: The adidas Ultra BOOST running shoe

Ultra Boost are the latest development from the adidas running team and claim to offer unrivalled ‘energy return’ with 20 percent more boost cushioning than ever before.

The Boost system is composed of many thousands of little energy capsules which provide a consistent performance in almost any environment.  The upper is made from adidas ‘Primeknit’ (essentially the adidas answer to Nike’s Flyknit).  Bur enough of the corporate gobbilidy gook, how do they perform in real-time…

Well the first thing I noticed about the shoe is that they come up a little bit neat. I normally wear a size 8UK on adidas and even those these were a 8,5UK they felt neat so you may want to think about going a half-size up.

These are heavier than a lot of the Nike running range that I have reviewed recently but they feel quite sturdy too which I liked.  Once you have them on they mould around the foot like a glove, I was really impressed by the feel of the ‘Primeknit’ upper which also helped to keep my feet cool.

Essentially these are a running shoe but I’m not much of a runner so instead I trialed them during a normal gym circuit with box jumps, step ups and the likes.  I really liked the bounce they seemed to add to my stride and even though I never wore them to run in I can imagine this being a nice little help for tired legs especially across a long distance.

At £130 these don’t come cheap however if you are into your running or just want some cool as funk looking gym sneaks then I think that they are definitely worth splashing out on.
