Hiring a private chef to cater your dinner party or event may seem like quite an exuberant prospect but it’s actually much more accessible than one would imagine via the Yhangry portal.
Despite their appearance on Dragon’s Den, I had not heard of Yhangry prior to this review, but having tried it for myself last week, I’m most definitely a convert to the idea of hiring a chef for any future social gatherings.
Getting started is as simple as heading over to the Yhangry site, putting in your postcode and browsing the chefs and menus available in your area. The network extends across most of the UK and features a wide range of options all the way from casual food right through to fine dining. If you have a specific requirement or menu idea, you can even reach out to Yhangry and they will do their best to find someone to match your requirements. The price is also dependent on which menu or chef you go with but it appears that the average is about £40pp.
I used the service recently to plan a leaving dinner for a friend and the small personal touches like personalised printed menu cards and the ability to adapt the menu we choose made for an unforgettable night.
Our chef Nick created a menu for us that included Scottish scallops to start, rump steak as a main and lavender shortbread creme brulee as pudding.
Your Yhangry pack arrived by post and includes all of the info that you need as well as your printed menu cards but the chef will arrive with all of the produce that they need. Nick asked for kitchen access 90 minutes before our agreed serving time to prep and everything else was left safely in his hands.
The food was presented beautifully and served by chef Nick with a short description of each course. Having him on hand to answer any queries and serve the food as well as tidy up efficiently was a novelty.
On reflection, the cost was akin to that of a 3-course meal in a nice restaurant (maybe even a tad cheaper as you just supply your own wine and drinks) but the experience was more memorable and special. If you’re planning an occasion or simply want a break from cooking, this service is definitely one that you should check out.
