Watch a movie under the night sky at Cinema Paradiso Ibiza

Having been to Ibiza quite a number of times now I was determined that on my latest visit I was going to explore a side of the island that I had never seen before.  Away from the hustle and bustle of the islands famous super clubs are some spectacular isolated beaches, amazing restaurants and quirky things to do.

Over the next week or so I will be sharing with you just some of the things that I got up to when I visited Ibiza last week but I thought I would start things off by telling you about one of my favourites – Cinema Paradiso.  Pop-up cinemas are certainly not uncommon now in the UK with everywhere from abandoned railway tunnels. carpark rooftops and parks being used to screen classic movies throughout the summer but I reckon all of these would struggle to compete with Cinema Paradiso.

I found about this event by chance while searching twitter just before I headed to Ibiza.  As luck would have it the premier event of the season would take place during my visit and the film on show was Legend starring Tom Hardy – a film that I thoroughly enjoyed.  For only 16 euros your ticket gets you access to the event along with a cone of popcorn and a cold Islena beer (the beer of Ibiza), which really is a bargain as this is a movie experience that is hard to match nevermind beat.

You lie on a super comfy beanbag to watch the film on a large jumbo screen within the square which really is quite cosy and relaxed and a million miles away from the cramped cinemas that I am used to!

This summer Cinema Paradiso takes over a historic square within the walls of the Dalt Vila, Ibiza on Thursday nights with a great program of films lined up like Joy, Reservoir Dogs and Scarface. The premise is simple yet perfectly executed within the most magical of settings that are lit around the sides with string lights that sparkle along with the stars in the night sky.

It may not be the traditional Ibiza activity that you had in mind but is totally worth taking a little time out from partying to experience if you find yourself on the island this summer.
