I don’t know anyone who doesn’t get excited by summer. The though of it is what get’s most of us through those long, cold wintry months. Living in the UK means that summer does not bring a guarantee of better weather, but it does bring the opportunity to do stuff that you don’t get the chance to the rest of the year. Summer is a really social time of year.
During summer the days are longer, people generally take holidays, there’s all the music festivals as well as a whole host of other events going on up and down the country. It’s just an exciting period of time and when that good weather does come (albeit briefly) it’s time to get outdoors. It’s time to drag the barbecue from the garage, invite some friends over and get the drinks on ice.
Midsummer’s Day took place on Saturday 24th June, although we don’t really celebrate it here (we have the solstice), it is a big celebration in Sweden, where families decorate their homes with flowers and greenery and have a big old party in the hope that it will bring good luck and fortune. I may not partake in this Swedish tradition over the summer but I do enjoy a summer Swedish tradition of my own and that is by relaxing (hopefully in the sunshine) with an ice-cold Strawberry and Lime or Passion fruit Rekorderlig Cider. Literally my favourite and the most refreshing summer drink whether I’m by a pool or in my garden.
For me summer is all about exciting travel. I just love to explore new places, meet new people and get a taste for different cultures. Thankfully, it’s cheaper than ever to get away and by investing a bit of time into searching online you can find some great deals on flights to places that you might not have thought of visiting before. Pretty much anywhere that you go in Europe (except the UK) gets decent weather over the summer months so it’s a great time to discover a new country. I’m just back from Greece and already itching to head off on the next adventure!
