When you think of Miami, no doubt the first thing that comes to mind is South Beach and the surrounding streets lined their art deco buildings. There are of course many sides of this great city though and one of the most colourful is undoubtedly the Wynwood Arts District.
Wynwood is a former industrial area around 15 minutes from South Beach (traffic depending) that has evolved into Miami’s hippest neighbourhood in recent years. It’s now home to lots of cool galleries, shops, bars and places to eat.
A few months back, I had a spare afternoon in the city and headed straight in the direction to Wynwood. It did not disappoint at all. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to see all that I wanted but I hope to be back soon.
If street art is your thing, then wandering around Wynwood will be a delight. Wynwood Walls is the epicentre of the district and if home to a series of huge outdoor works of street art by some of the worlds leading artists. It’s one big explosion of colour and the perfect place to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.
Top tip: If you’re in the area, stop by Dasher & Crank for some wacky but tasty ice-cream!
