4 Ways to Ignite Your Winter Water Sports Motivation

It’s very easy for the cold winter nights and short days to ruin your fitness motivation and derail your goals. Snuggling under a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in front of a cheery film is much more tempting. But how exactly do you stay fit during wintertime and where on earth do you find the motivation.

There are some easy things to do to keep your motivation going through the cold, dark and rainy months. Whether it’s buying winter gear to make the conditions more manageable or joining a club, here are some ways to beat the cold.

Join a club

There’s a sports club for everything. From tennis to running, rugby and football, joining a club will introduce routine that is much easier to follow. Not only will there be the chance that you let down your team if you don’t show up, but going training is also a valuable social opportunity which, let’s face it, can’t be turned down during the quiet social season.

Investigate local sports clubs and see what you find. And don’t be afraid to try something new! A new-found passion is surely going to get you out and about whilst it’s wet and rainy outside.

Invest in good gear

Sometimes, the only thing keeping us from going outside is the fear of getting wet and cold. Equip yourself with some great quality sports gear that will keep the elements at bay. Think breathable waterproofs, light merino sweaters and high-tech shoes that can combat slippery conditions.

Another sport that winter is particularly good at is skiing. Avoid extortionate rental rates and buy your own from a renowned ski shop. Too expensive? You can always buy good quality stuff second hand.

Make a holiday out of it

What could be better to escape the winter blues than by going on holiday? With so many destinations primed for winter season, be that the alpine landscapes of central Europe that are paradise for skiers, or southern Europe destinations that are much warmer during the winter months, you can pursue all kinds of sports in a new environment.

If you’re craving some winter sun, combine it with a sailing holiday and discover hidden ports, secret islands and secluded bays without any of the tourists.

Embrace the chill

One sure-fire way to enjoy winter is to embrace it with open arms. Breathing in all that crisp cold air whilst you push through a workout works wonders for your mind and body. Going for a jog or bike ride is another great way to enjoy the wintry landscapes.

Finally, there’s no denying the mental health benefits that winter exercise affords. By staying active, your mind will be brighter, and you will remain much more optimistic.
