Lush Spa’s Karma Ritual Takes You on a Journey Through India

There aren’t many places in Glasgow where you can go from the chaos of one of the city’s busiest shopping streets to feeling like you’ve completely escaped it within a few minutes.

That’s exactly what happened when I headed upstairs at Lush Spa Glasgow to try the Karma Ritual, a 65-minute, four-handed massage performed by two therapists working in sync.

The treatment is inspired by Ayurveda and traditional Indian massage, with the two therapists choreographing their movements to a soundtrack of traditional Indian folk music. The music takes you on a journey through India and was one of my favourite parts of the experience, adding another layer to the treatment and making it feel like more than just a massage.

The other standout was the Karma fragrance. I’ve always liked the scent, but having the warm Karma oil incorporated into the treatment made it feel even more immersive. Combined with the music and the synchronised movements of the therapists, I found myself gradually switching off and drifting away.

There are plenty of other elements woven into the ritual, including pressure-point massage, singing bowls and a final Shirodhara-inspired ritual where warm coconut water is gently poured over the forehead.

If you’re after a proper reset rather than a quick pamper, this delivers.

The spa itself is part of the experience. Located on the second floor of Lush’s flagship store on Buchanan Street, Lush Spa Glasgow feels like a completely different world from the hustle and bustle of Scotland’s busiest shopping street outside.

At £275, it’s definitely a splurge, but the four-handed format and immersive nature of the treatment make it feel more like a special experience than a standard massage. It’s the kind of thing I’d save for a special treat or milestone rather than an everyday bit of self-care.

I went in expecting a relaxing massage and came out feeling like I’d been somewhere completely different for an hour. For a special treat or proper reset, the Karma Ritual is a memorable experience.
