To celebrate the launch of the Waykee, Diesel decided to invite a few influential bloggers from across the UK along to try them out. I was chosen to fly the flag for Scotland (whoop) so I headed to the Glasgow, Braehead branch of USC where I was met by denim experts Paul and Martin. The lads showed me the range of Waykee’s as well as some of the other Diesel styles for comparison. USC claim to have the biggest range of denim in the UK and by looking at the wall in front of me this was not had to believe.
The Waykee is pretty similar to the Larkee which are the best-selling style however they feature a higher waist and are slightly more tapered from the knee down – this results in a slightly more flattering fit. There is versatility in the fit too as they come in straight, regular and cigarette leg. The special finishing touches are evident all over the Waykee with hidden patches along the buttons, on the inside of the pockets and small ‘1978’ metal plaques.
Martin was wearing the Black Stretch version of the Waykee priced at £100 which in his words are a very comfy fit and great to wear. They looked good on with trainers and are a very rich jet black in colour. My eyes, however, were instantly drawn to the 807R version. These are an 11oz denim made from 100% cotton which has a 3D effect worked into it and an almost vintage tweed look. I grabbed my size in these and headed to the changing room to give them a test drive.
One of the first things I noticed about these jeans was the feel of them, you can instantly tell there was a lot of work put into crafting this style. The bottom of the legs has a real rugged turn up which looks great against the darker outside of the denim. As far as fit goes they are a straight leg but on the slightly narrower side of slim which is a great shape for The Everyday Man. They don’t look like parachutes or cut off the circulation to the nether regions so are extremely wearable.
Diesel Waykee jeans are available from USC stores across the UK or at their online store.
