Gentlemen’s Tonic Daily Shampoo + Protein Conditioner

Just last month I discovered Gentlemen’s Tonic, a luxury barbershop and day spa located on a quiet cobbled street just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Mayfair in London.  I popped in recently for a beard trim and was won over by their personal and professional approach.

A visit to the barbershop can be a little like therapy for men, it’s a chance to spill your gripes, moans and highlights of your life with someone who you don’t know but can often have a strangely close bond with.  The service at Gentlemen’s Tonic is very much a one-on-one affair with each of the barbers being stationed within their own enclosed space.  The benefit of this is that you can listen to the music that you want to (and not the generic background waffle that you get in a lot of places) and of course have your hair cut and styled in privacy.  It’s a very exclusive feeling process.

As well as offering the barbering and spa services, Gentlemen’s Tonic offers an award-winning range of grooming and skincare products.  As I loved the smell of them during my treatment I could not leave without snapping up a few to try at home.

I opted for the Daily Shampoo and Protein Condition (both £16.50 for 250ml).  I had been using the Rehab shampoo from Lush for ages but started to find that my hair was getting a bit limp and dry so had been looking for an alternative.  These seemed perfect.

Even though they advertise the shampoo as for daily use, I’ve only been using it to wash my hair twice a week as I think that’s more than enough.  I’ve been following the shampoo with an application of the Protein Conditioner.  Make sure you leave the conditioner on for at least 2 minutes before rinsing to get the best from the product.  I know that the tendency for a lot of men is just to rub it in and rinse straight away but try to resist.

I’ve found that after a few weeks of following this routine my hair looks healthier, has been easier to style and feels generally feels stronger.  Hopefully, over time, and with continued use I’ll notice even more of a difference but in this short space of time anyway both the daily shampoo and protein conditioner both get my stamp of approval.
