The Barbican is one of London’s most recognisable architectural landmarks, and now its distinctive design language is being translated into a new collection for the home.
MADE has teamed up with the Barbican on a 23-piece interiors collection drawing on the estate’s architecture, original layouts and archives. The range spans furniture, lighting, textiles and accessories, bringing together the geometric forms, curved silhouettes and modular structures synonymous with the Barbican.
The look is actually more approachable than you might expect. Alongside the architectural references are softer textiles, warm neutrals, moss green, ochre and deep rust, with stained ash, chrome and deep-pile textures adding to the mix.
The Curve Table Lamp is one of the standout pieces, taking inspiration from the tubular acoustic panels inside the Barbican Hall. Its angled shade rotates on a chrome base, with burgundy, olive green and dusty blue finishes available. It is priced at £50.
The Brute Rug looks directly to the Barbican’s history, reworking a design from one of the estate’s original show flats. The piece draws on designer Miriam Howitt’s use of bold patterned carpets to add colour and visual weight to the spacious interiors. The rug is hand-tufted in wool with a long shag pile and has a distinctly retro feel. Prices start at £100.
There are also cushions and wall art, with prices starting at £32, making the collection easy to dip into without committing to a full interiors overhaul.
The MADE x Barbican collection is available now from MADE.com, with selected pieces also available from the Barbican Shop.
The collaboration will also be presented at the Barbican Centre’s Level G Hub Space from 12 to 20 September as part of London Design Festival. The installation will explore the collection and the archival inspiration behind it.
