Why Being Around Water Is Good For Your Health

The many benefits of being around water have been known (although not always understood) for centuries. It’s why people were advised to go to the coast for their health in Victorian times, for example, and why, even now, water is felt to be something that calms and relaxes you. Just what is it about water that makes it so good for your health? Read on to find out some of the reasons.

Reduces Stress And Anxiety

Whether you have your own Merry Fisher 895 to drive, swim and fish from, you like to go swimming at the local pool, or you find that taking a walk alongside a river is best, there is no doubt that being around water will reduce your feelings of stress and anxiety. Studies have actually shown that water has a real calming effect on the mind and body, and this is especially true when you think of the sound of water, whether that’s crashing waves, a trickling stream, or even rain.

But looking at water also has a positive effect, so generally being around it as much as possible will be an ideal way to keep you calm and happy. If you find you’re getting stressed, taking some time out to enjoy your garden’s water feature if you can’t get to a body of water can be a great option that will certainly help.

Opportunities For Exercise

When discussing good health and getting healthy, exercise is probably what springs to mind. It’s essential that human beings exercise regularly in order to keep at their ideal weight and keep their internal organs working as they should. Water can help with this and ensure that you are able to stay fitter and stronger.

There are many different ways to stay healthy in the water. Swimming is the most obvious, but there are other things you can do as well. There are aqua aerobics classes, for example, and taking a boat out on the water requires physical hard work, especially if it has sails or oars. Surfing, water skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing, snorkelling, and many other water-based activities will give you a good workout.

Improves Sleep

Sleep is essential for our overall health and well-being, and perhaps surprisingly, being about water can help us sleep better. We’ll sleep more deeply and for longer, ensuring our bodies can repair themselves during this time. When we wake up after a good night’s sleep, we’ll feel refreshed and energised, and ready to be productive. We’ll also be healthier.

There are a number of reasons why being around water can promote good sleep. For one, it’s relaxing, as we mentioned above, and this means we’re more receptive to sleep because our minds are struggling with puzzles and challenges. As well as this, spending time outside means our circadian rhythms become more in tune with the world around us, so we’ll know when it’s time to sleep and time to wake naturally. Since water will be outside, we’ll get this benefit without even realising it. Finally, when we’re doing exercises in the water, we’ll get more tired and sleep better as a result.
