P&O Cruises newest ship Arvia held its UK premiere of Greatest Days, the Official Take That Musical by Tim Firth on Sunday April 30. Greatest Days is a story about friendship and music and focuses on five 16-year-old girls in 1993 for whom Take That is everything. This weekend P&O Cruises officially welcomed Greatest Days’ the official Take That musical to the Headliners Theatre on Arvia, their latest mega-ship.
This exciting event was eagerly anticipated by passengers and industry professionals alike, and it did not disappoint. I was fortunate enough to go along to the UK Premiere of Greatest Days on Arvia and have to say, It’s one of the best pieces of theatre that I’ve seen on a ship to date.
Greatest Days is based on a west-end musical of the same name award-winning composer and lyricist duo, Gary Barlow and Tim Firth. Firth and Barlow have worked to condense the original version down to an hour-long show for P&O Cruises.
Gary Barlow is also P&O Cruises musical director and he was on hand at the Premiere to introduce the show and to give a bit of background to the story and its inception.
The musical tells the story of a group of friends who reunite, reflecting on their past and looking forward to their future. The show features a cast of talented performers, stunning sets and costumes, and of course, the infectious music and lyrics of Barlow and Firth. Woven into the story are Take That classics like Never Forget and Pray as well as the newest music from the band.
Even if you are not a die-hard Take That fan, the show’s themes of friendship and nostalgia will resonate with passengers young and old alike If you’re sailing on Arvia in the coming months, be sure to keep an eye on your Horizon newspaper for performances of Greatest Days on your cruise.
